Cricket betting: three formats, many markets and the weather
Cricket is one of the world's most followed sports, with very different formats under one name. For bettors, the format changes nearly everything: how long a match lasts, whether it can be drawn and how much weather can interfere. This page explains the essentials. We do not list any bookmaker's markets or odds.

| Format | Length | What it changes for betting |
|---|---|---|
| Test | Up to five days | A draw is a possible result |
| ODI (one-day) | 50 overs per side | Decided the same day, barring interruptions |
| T20 | 20 overs per side | Fast pace, less predictable results |
Common markets
- Match winner: in Tests there may be three options, including the draw.
- Top batter: the player who scores most runs for their team; special rules if the player does not bat.
- Total runs: runs for a team or an innings, above or below a line.
- Coin toss: which team wins the toss — pure chance, with a margin attached.
Rain and interrupted matches
Cricket is played outdoors and rain interrupts many matches. In limited-overs formats, a mathematical method may be used to recalculate the target for the team batting second. For bets, a market may settle on an adjusted result, or be voided if too few overs were bowled. Each bookmaker defines the rule — read it before betting on a match with rain forecast.
Betting on what you do not know
Cricket matches often run at unusual hours for European bettors, when other sports are quiet. That is exactly when the temptation to bet "because there is a game on" is strongest. If you do not know the teams or the format, the odds are the only information you have — and they include the bookmaker's margin. Deposit limits apply at night too.
The bookmaker and the licence
Before betting, check that the bookmaker's domain is in your regulator's register and that the licence covers sports betting. Exotic markets do not change the rule: outside the register there is no regulator in your market above the operator.
